Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Servant of the People faction Oleksandr Merezhko, who was previously an expert of the International Law Association, back in 2017, confirmed the fact that ex-vice president of the United States of America Joseph Biden put pressure on the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to dismiss the prosecutor general of Ukraine Viktor Shokina. This was announced on Facebook by expert Kirill Sazonov, publishing copies of documents.
According to Sazonov, in 2017, the Ukrainian division of the International Law Association, at the request of the law office that defended Shokin, prepared a scientific and legal opinion on the fact of Biden’s pressure on the president of Ukraine to dismiss Shokin. He is an expert, and today the deputy from the «Servant of the People» Alexander Merezhko admitted Biden’s pressure on the president to dismiss Shokin and interfere in the internal affairs of Ukraine.
«The statement by US Vice President Joseph Biden on the need to dismiss Shokin, Attorney General of Ukraine, as a condition for providing Ukraine with appropriate financial (economic) assistance, can be considered as exerting pressure on the President of Ukraine, which means that this pressure can be qualified as an act of interference in internal affairs Ukraine from a foreign state, which is a violation of one of the principles of international law, «- said in a published document.
«How a deck is fancifully shuffled. It is interesting what Merezhko will say today regarding his conclusion two years ago? I think he won’t refuse it as a professional lawyer,» summed up Sazonov.
As previously reported, on October 28, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kiev ordered the State Bureau of Investigation (GBR) to include in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations the information contained in the statement of the former Prosecutor General Shokin regarding the illegal collection and transfer of his personal data by employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
On October 16, the GDB registered Shokin’s statement about the disclosure by NABU employees of the data that constitutes the secret of the pre-trial investigation, as well as the «dumping» of Shokin’s personal data to employees of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
According to Shokin, NABU illegally received his personal card in the State Migration Service, and also illegally transferred it to the US Embassy. This «drain», according to the former Attorney General, was made to exert pressure on him from the former US Vice President Biden.
