Suddenly, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reacted rudely and sharply to yesterday’s performance in the Malinovsky District Court of Odessa by one of the witnesses in the “Krayan case” — people’s deputy Sergei Leshchenko.
The state prosecution included him in the list of his witnesses because of a year ago post on Facebook. In it, the people’s deputy reported that “Trukhanov’s people came to him, who reported that the money from the acquisition of the Krayan plant was not meant for Trukhanov, but Turchinov and Dubovoy.”
Later, during the interrogation at NABU, Leshchenko explained that this information was provided to him by a “person from Trukhanov’s entourage”, “whose personal data” he cannot provide for “ethical considerations”. According to the “person”, the plant’s administration by the Odessa City Council was carried out with the assistance of the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov and former People’s Deputy Oleksandr Dubovoy, who are allegedly linked by religious beliefs (both Baptists) and close personal relationships.
At trial, the prosecutor asked for more details about this and name the source of the information. Leshchenko made a long refusal and asked for a printout of his post on Facebook, then said that the post was based on a message from a certain MP, but which one, he … forgot. As a result, the testimony turned out to be crumpled, less detailed than during interrogation at NABU, and from the category “one grandmother said.” In passing the verdict, the court will most likely not take them into account.
SAP responded to Leshchenko’s behavior by publishing a protocol of his interrogation and detailed commentary.
“Certainly, not being under the oath of a witness, giving interviews or speaking to voters, it is very easy to fight crime and, in particular, corruption, giving advice to those who should do it anyway. However, in reality, in which millions of ordinary citizens work, thousands of ordinary law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges and real social activists, Mr. Leshchenko turns into a forgetful ostrich who knows how to hide his head in the sand, he is afraid to name the real beneficiaries from frauds and fraud, «- said in a statement the prosecutor’s office.
